The Wharton Global High School Investment Competition
Students in grades 9 through 12 compete globally in the Wharton Global High School Investment Competition by coming up with a strategy that will help them accomplish their long-term objectives in order to attempt to win the business of a potential client. Participants use $100,000 in virtual funds to establish a portfolio while working in groups of four to seven students to develop an investment strategy, research industries, and evaluate businesses. The strength and clarity of the team's approach is more important than the expansion of their portfolios in this investing competition than in the majority of others.
The Young Investors Society annually hosts the Global Stock Pitch Competition. Participants must analyze a publicly traded company (often even meeting with the firm's management), advise whether to "buy" or "sell" its stock, and eventually justify their stance in a written report. Participants have the option of work alone or in teams of two.
